Ian Atkins BA FCA ACCA
Managing Director
Ian graduated from the University of Kent in accounting and law in 1978 and joined Ernst & Young. He qualified first time and after progressing to audit supervisor, joined the national training department on a 20 month secondment. He returned to audit as a manager and left to join HAT in July 1985.
Roles and Responsibilities
Ian's major areas of responsibility are:
- Writing and teaching on the A to Gb Courses
- Lecturing on the HAT CPD course programme on auditing and personal skills
- Advising practices on audit compliance
- Carrying out annual audit compliance reviews for member firms
- QAD and Practice Assurance / Quality Checked support
- Presenting technical update meetings
- Carrying out quality control file reviews
- Carrying out student reviews
- Practice efficiency consultancy
- Chairperson of technical, student and student liaison committees
- Marketing
- Editorship of bimonthly HAT Newsletter
Hobbies & Interests
Ian's hobbies include watching Southend United, Speedway, collecting number one hit singles, visiting houses and castles, gardening, theatre, concerts, and cycling. Ian is a member of the 92 Club, having visited all the current football league grounds, and in February 2010, extended this to cover all Blue Square Premier grounds and he is also a member of CAMRA.
